What's a smash burger? You make a smash burger by placing a ball of minced meat on your griddle and smashing (= pressing) it flat with a spatula. This creates a nice crispy crust with a distinctive fried flavour. Our soft, tender Brioche Bun fits that perfectly. Ready, set, smash!
< Max 24 hours in advance >
Thaw the Brioche Bun as directed on the packet.
< Max 1 hour in advance >
Fry the bacon until crispy in a pan or oven and drain on kitchen paper.
Make a ball with the mince, place on a hot griddle and smash with a spatula. Flip over and repeat. Season to taste with freshly ground salt and pepper.
Open the Brioche Bun and assemble your burger: spread mayonnaise on both halves of the bun. Top with the pepper, patty, bacon and (drained!) onion.
Serve immediately!

Tip 1
"A smash burger should be made with minced beef with at least 15% fat. The fat is needed, so when you smash the burger, it will fry nicely and crispy.”
Tip 2
"Like your bacon ultra crispy? Then bake your bacon between two baking sheets for 11 minutes at 180°C. This is an easy way to cook two flat bacon strips without any curling. Crunchy and easier to incorporate into your burger!"
Tip 3
"Want to pickle red onion yourself? It's quite simple! Bring 250 mL of water, 250 mL of vinegar, and 20 g of sugar to a boil. Pour into a jar, add the chopped red onion with some flavourings, seal and wait at least 1 hour."
Brioche Buns are a classic at La Lorraine Bakery Group. You can find them in different sizes, weights and flavours. This round brioche bun comes in a circle or oblong shape (= sandwich), small or large size, pre-sliced or unsliced and with or without seeds. We also have sweet brioches with cinnamon, delicious with pulled meat and blue cheese!
